Cross border commerce specialist Zonos picks Australia for its first international office

Sets up in the Gold Coast and recruits local talent with support of Austrade and Trade & Investment Queensland

Australian e-commerce and retailers are set to benefit with the news that Zonos, the global technology leader for cross-border commerce, has opened its first international office in Queensland, Australia to meet the needs of its growing Asia Pacific business. It has also announced the appointment of Travis Robinson as its APAC General Manager.

Zonos SaaS solutions give online retailers, marketplaces, logistics providers, trade organisations, and online marketplaces the tools and services they need to easily sell and scale globally, offering the only true landed cost solution on the market for retailers.

With the Asia-Pacific region expected to continue to lead global ecommerce sales, the need for accurate cross-border duty and tax calculations, VAT compliance, and HS code classification will continue to grow. Zonos simplifies the complexities of cross border using expertise and technology to make global commerce accessible to everyone.

Zonos CEO Clint Reid commented: “Expanding to Australia is the next step towards executing our mission to create trust and transparency in global trade with our world-class tech that can connect the world through trade.”

Zonos chose to open their first international office on the Gold Coast rather than in a larger Australian metropolitan city, because it closely mirrors the company culture of supporting healthy work-life balance, by living and working where others play.  Zonos' US headquarters is in St. George, Utah, USA, a city known for its sunshine and its rapidly developing tech sector.

Travis Robinson, GM APAC at Zonos commented: “We are delighted with our decision to base our APAC office on the Gold Coast.  The level of talent that we have been able to access locally is exceptional and I’m excited at the potential our new team has to both better support our current customer base as well as expand throughout Australia and the rest of the APAC region.”

The company also received on the ground assistance from Trade and Investment Queensland in planning the move to Queensland. The agency’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Carey said competition for investment and attracting companies is global.

“It’s great to see ZONOS choose Queensland and be based on the thriving Gold Coast,” said Carey. “Zonos has been able to tap into a reserve of skilled, professional local staff. I can’t wait to see them grow in the future.”

Nick Nichles, Austrade Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner, San Francisco commented: “Austrade welcomes Zonos expansion into Australia, creating a new hub in the Asia-Pacific region. There are obvious benefits for the Australian business community: from new exporters to more mature businesses seeking to expand and diversify into new markets. It comes at an exciting time, as borders reopen to international travellers, restoring aviation capacity and supply chain crunches that have plagued global trade over the past two years.”

Robinson has worked with Zonos for more than seven years, most recently as VP of Engineering based at the company’s US headquarters.  Previously he was VP Customer Success at Zonos.
