High capacity meets performance for cost-effective mission critical storage efficiency
With the world expected to create 163ZB of data annually by 2025, global demand for storage continues to increase as data needs are growing exponentially. Organisations, especially mid-sized companies looking to drive business growth, need to refine their approach to IT in response. IT leaders, for example, must determine which business applications to manage in-house and which to send to the cloud, how to optimise their existing hardware investments, and which data to save and secure long-term in order to meet evolving customer needs and regulatory requirements.
While the data storage approach for an established enterprise is similar, there are special considerations for a growing mid-sized organisation. Seagate is helping these companies navigate this journey through a portfolio of storage technologies that address each challenge along the way with the right mix of affordable, reliable and easy-to-integrate HDD and Flash drives.
Today, Seagate is launching its 2.4TB Enterprise Performance 10K 2.5-inch hard drive (HDD). Offering the industry’s best-in-class performance and the highest capacity available in a 10K 2.5-inch drive, it’s the latest product in Seagate’s expanding portfolio that can help mid-sized companies capitalise on new opportunities today and tomorrow. To meet the demand for reliable, high performance server and storage solutions, at a cost that fits into existing budgets, this HDD is based on Seagate’s 9th-generation proven enterprise firmware and reliability, and is designed to meet the demands of Database (ERP) and transaction processing (OLTP), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), File and Print Serving and similar workloads. It’s well suited to serve mission-critical servers and external storage arrays, power- and space-constrained data centers, green IT and drive-retirement cost reduction initiatives, compliance and data security initiatives and for data center migrations from 3.5-inch drive systems to next-generation technology.
“The new Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDDs with capacities up to 2.4TB are instrumental in enabling us to provide efficient, high-performance Mission Critical servers for our data center customers to help drive their rapid IT development,” said Mr. Qiu Long, VP, Huawei Enterprise Group. “By fulfilling the need for higher density, we are able to offer cost-effective high performance at a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) — now and into the future.”
“By deploying Seagate’s Enterprise Performance 10K HDDs in our broad portfolio of server platforms, we can offer the highest Mission Critical capacity, performance and efficiency server solutions that our Enterprise data center customers need to support their growing data storage for Enterprise workloads,” said Michael McNerney, General Manager of Marketing and Solutions at Supermicro. “These new 2.4TB hard drives enable us to build and deliver application-optimised solutions based upon our customer’s requirements.”
Mid-sized business, as well as OEMs and System Integrators need to meet their fast-growing, high-performance storage requirements with high capacity, high performing technologies that won’t break the bank. Seagate’s Enterprise Performance 10K HDDs provide consistent, secure and reliable storage access without the cost point of SSDs or other higher-priced performance options – allowing IT professionals to use existing budgets to:
- Scale up user capacity
- Accelerate business transactions
- Reduce service calls and support costs
- Increase storage capacity
- Comply with regulatory requirements
Enterprise Performance 10K HDD with its 2.4TB of data storage provides data centers with the performance needed for the most write-intensive applications, as well as scalability to meet storage growth and business objectives today and in the future. With this drive, customers receive best in class 10K performance with Seagate’s Enhanced Caching technology, (TurboBoost™, for reads and Advanced Write Caching for writes) as well as support of other capacities including 1.8TB, 1.2TB and 600GB. In addition to the traditional 512 native format, the new 10K HDD also includes FastFormat™ making it easy to utilise the high performing advanced formats and easy to upgrade from 512 emulation to 4K native formats in the future. Seagate Secure SED and FIPS 140-2 government-grade models provide security for data-at-rest, and Instant Secure Erase (ISE) helps cut IT drive retirement costs. Seagate’s 2.4TB Enterprise Performance 10K 2.5-inch HDD is now shipping to select partners, with plans for volume shipping next quarter.
